The Soprano Lives! (Copy)

In all the many operas written in the “verismo” style, there are very few that do not result in the soprano tragically dying, either by a jilted lover, or some other horrible means. At BARN OPERA, we care about sopranos, and have found two notable exceptions to the rule: Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana, and Puccini’s Il Tabarro. In both cases, it is a love triangle that is the crux of the drama, but in both cases, the soprano survives - the tenor, however, isn’t quite so fortunate.
